Education is one of the primary areas that Casa-Nica is looking to place volunteers. This work can take the form of teaching, teaching assistance, infrastructure maintenance or providing educational tools (such as the OLPC laptops) that will improve the education of Nicaraguans. We do not want to limit ourselves only to the education of children. We have several ongoing projects and are happy to initiate projects with any educational project as long as they are a non-profit.
There are several local schools and educational institutes that operate in and around Masaya that we have identified but so far have not made any contact with. An intern could take one or more of these schools and initiate contact and build a relationship to where a volunteer program could be designed and implemented.
The local schools that we have so far identified are as follows:
- The local primary and secondary state-run schools
- A school for people with physical and mental disabilities
- A small school for the children of the vendors in the Municipal Market
- A technical college for training in engineering, mechanics, and nursing
We would be happy to work with any local school if you want to come create the project.
